The most powerful members of the JLA and the JSA are possessed by the Seven Deadly Sins Of Men and they are ready to wage war in the world! This is one of the best quotes in this tale!
So I Read Today: JLA/Wild C.A.T.S (1998)
Way back before DC bought Wildstorm Comics, you could see the roots for that particular business relation in what it was their first creative collaboration. A single one-shot featuring both publishers premiere teams. The JLA along the Wild C.A.T.S was not promoted as a meeting for the ages, but a huge effort was put into getting both teams together with the best talent of the day handling their team-up. Grant Morrison wrote the story, Val Semeiks provided visuals along Kevin Conrad and TUCC colors. Very few words could describe this great comic but I think the word tat suits it just fine is “weird”.
JLA/Wild C.A.T.S is a weird comic, but not in the bad sense of the word, it combines storytelling elements related to time-travel and as you all know those kind of stories can be a huge headache to follow, add to it the trademark cryptic narration of Morrison and you have one incredible tale. Both teams have to face DC villain Epoch, the lord of time who through various schemes fuses his whole being with time travel technology and does his best to kill off the league. Content with stranding them on time he escapes to the far future. The team makes his way back to present to find their reality merged with the Wildstorm universe. The traditional team-on-team fight ensues with he higher points going to Superman against Majestic, Wonder Woman vs Zealot and Batman vs Grifter.
Once both teams have patched up their differences it’s time to go into business and deal with the threat of Epoch once for all, the villain has merged realities and mixed technologies from all times and ages in preparation for his ultimate opponents but what he finds is his ability to be surprised as History is proven to be uncertain even for a being who fancies himself a God. This book is such a great read, time has been kind to him even though it already has 14 years of being published. I’ve already had my say on Morrison’s great writing but the awesome art of Val Semeiks is what truly delivers on this one, this man has some mad storytelling skills. This book can still be found for a song, go check it out, you will not regret it!
