So I Read Today… Green Lantern #1 (Vol.5)
You cannot feel the reboot on this one. That sums up everything you need to know about Green Lantern #1. The book picks up exactly where it left off, Hal Jordan has been discarded like used tissue of the Green Lantern Corps, he’s a maverick test pilot who cannot find a job, he’s being wooed by Carol Ferris to patch up their relationship but he cannot take a hint even if his life did depend on it. All in all we are shown that Hal Jordan without the ring is a sore loser, it feels bad to say this about the guy, but is the whole hearten truth.
On the other hand we have Sinestro, after the events depicted in “War Of The Green Lanterns” he’s the corps new acquisition, the problem is, that he doesn’t want it, even for a single second, he was after all, the leader of the Yellow Corps, when he is released from captivity he immediately goes to his homeworld just to see it overrun and enslaved by his former teammates, so now it’s up to him to make things right and return Hal Jordan to his post and retake his command as the leader of the Yellow Corps.
Green Lantern #1 doesn’t feels like a new beginning for the character, it feels however like a continuation of the great story told by Geoff Johns. For those who haven’t been keeping track, he’s the guy who made Green Lantern cool again, and added so much back story and richness to the world of this character that he alone is one of the greatest powerhouses of the DC universe (He’s after all one of the big seven!), GL fans will enjoy this read, mainly because it doesn’t take away anything about the characters you already know and love. New fans whoever will be left scratching their heads asking about the back story of these guys (hope it gets them interested in finding out more!)
